The Chair for Embedded Security has a long and successful history with technology spin-offs. Our companies are based on technologies that were developed as part of our ongoing research, and for which we found a demand on the market. The well-developed eco systems for start-ups in Bochum provides an ideal environment for the fast and successful ramp-up of cyber security companies. They are supported by the cyber security incubator CUBE5.
ESCRYPT - Embedded Security GmbH was founded in 2004 by Christof Paar and Willi Mannheims. In 2012, it was acquired by Bosch. ESCRYPT is the leading system provider for embedded security solutions for industries such automotive, mechanical engineering or e-health. In addition to the head office in Bochum, Escrypt has four other branches in Germany, as well as offices in the United Kingdom, Sweden, the United States, Canada, India, China, Korea, and Japan.
The company was founded by Timo Kasper and David Oswald in 2012 and provides comprehensive consulting services and product development in the field of embedded security and IT applications. Our business activities comprise the analysis, design, and realization of corresponding security solutions. In training courses and lectures we illustrate the relevant security issues of hardware and software implementations and familiarize you and your employees with the state-of-the-art of solving these problems.
PHYSEC GmbH was founded in 2016 by Christian Zenger and Heiko Koepke. With innovative security and connectivity concepts, PHYSEC enables the successful implementation of new functionalities and business models in the Internet of Things. PHYSEC was supported by technology transfer grant by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The PHYSEC technology as well as the corresponding products and business models have received several awards. PHYSEC has customers in different industries, for example critical infrastructures, building automation and smart home.
Emerging from the 2017 BMBF StartUpSecure project emproof GmbH was founded in 2019 by Marc Fyrbiak, Benjamin Kollenda and Philipp Koppe. emproof builds solutions to protect the intellectual property of microcontroller software against reverse engineering, competitor analysis and product piracy. The core product is a compiler extension which easily integrates into the development process and removes artifacts essential for reverse engineering in an automated manner.
